Use Wikipedia to Find Credible Sources
While you may not use Wikipedia as a cited source in your project, you can visit the Wikipedia page on your topic to get basic information on your topic.
- If the article is tagged with warnings or there are few references listed to indicate where the information in the article came from, do not waste your time reading the article - look elsewhere for information.
- Check the References, Bibliography, and Related Links section of the Wikipedia article to determine if there are links to authoritative sources. You must evaluate the appropriateness of these links for college research by identifying
- who authored or claims responsibility for the information
- what are the author's scholarly credentials
- how current is the information
- can you verify the information in another source
